A companion to the Bibliothek der Kirchenväter

The Bibliothek der Kirchenväter (bkv.unifr.ch) provides direct access to its texts through a powerful full-text search. This additional service here offers a different way in: you can ask questions in natural language, explore themes and arguments, or investigate an author’s writings through dialogue.

The author-specific GPTs use the corresponding Latin texts as their knowledge base. The AI is instructed not to speak for the author or invent answers, but to base its responses on these sources and, wherever possible, point you to the relevant passages. If the available texts do not contain an answer to your question, it should say so explicitly. See the list of supported authors below.

The general BKV Chat provides a broader entry point and can search across the texts available on the BKV website.

This service does not replace either reading the sources themselves or the BKV’s ElasticSearch full-text search. It complements them by offering another way to discover texts through questions, concepts, and connections.
